Santosh Mitra Square attracts lakhs of visitors every year with its unique themes. Last year, they went for Durga Idol made of gold, while in 2018 they decorated their pandal with silver. “This is probably the toughest decision we have ever taken. There are no beds available in the hospitals at the moment. We can’t imagine what would happen after the Puja. That is why we took this decision, despite the huge financial loss we will have to bear,” said Sajal. If the club opts for visitor-free Puja, all the sponsors will back out and we will sustain a loss of at least Rs 30 lakh.
While the theme of the Puja has been decorated by artist Ranajay Rakshit, the idol has been made by Mintu Pal, who had made the world’s tallest Durga idol at Deshapriya Park in 2015.
